More Drawings of Deron

Figure Drawing Weekend!

This weekend was glorious in Los Angeles weatherwise so I just had to fit in some figure drawing. It's very relaxing for me. Some folks go to church, but for me, figure drawing is a religious experience. Saturday I drew Deron, whose very much a renaissance man as well as visually striking. If ever there was a walking Belasco drawing, he's it. When I first saw pictures of him I thought, "he looks like the kinds of guys I doodle out of my head!". He has very dynamic facial features that make him very easy for me to capture. After being introduced through a mutual friend, the amazing photographer, Desi Hytner of www.zedneram.com, I quickly set up an appointment to draw him. He was quite shy at first but has since come out of his shell. This figure drawing was done very quickly and then I went in and added color, which is something I don't do usually. What's interesting in the way we work is that he can't really hold a very long pose (nervous gemini energy! lol) so I'm forced to draw a lot faster and use short hand. But then I can go in with markers and add color because it doesn't matter then if he moves a bit. It's forced me to push my eye to mentally edit and only draw the essence of what's in front of me. Normally, I like to take my time and fuss over a drawing which can lead to overworking it. It's always nice when a model/muse brings energy that challenges my skill level. I'll post more from this session soon as well from as the figure drawing gathering I attended this past Sunday held by the gracious, uber talented artist, Miguel Angel Reyes. He has a talent for finding top notch models and newbies. Oh, and I haven't posted the drawings I did from the fabulously successful drawing salon from a week ago, but I will soon.

New Color work

For a change of pace, I actually colored these by hand with markers instead of using Photoshop (with except for the background color...that is Photoshop). I'm known for my more overtly 'masculine' drawings, but all kinds of guys revv my rockets, even the softer, sensuous types. A little known fact is that my first drawings were of buffed black dudes wearing high heels. (Hey, it was the early 90's...it was a lot edgier back then in a lot of ways...). Anyway, these are just a shout out to soft, silky and sexy boys out there...

Guess Who? BOOOOOO!

This is a sculpture I did of our boy, Boo, a couple of months ago just to see if I could do a large scale sculpture. It's about 3 1/4 ft. tall. It was the center piece of my recent exhibit at Antebellum Gallery here in Los Angeles. I was quite pleased to find out that it had already been sold before the art opening! Anyway, it's made up of carved styrofoam and papermachie and I plan on doing a bunch more and selling them (hopefully!). The gallery owner said someone was interested in purchasing a female Boo! Can you wrap your mind around that? I can, since I have drawn a female Boo before just to see what it'd be like. I'll have to post it some day. Oh, and I know some of you have heard about a certain series of short films dealing with black gay DL experience coming out with a new installment that will be called, "Boo". A couple of people have asked me about it and I've decided to take the high road and support the film since I saw the second installment and thought it was very well done. But honestly, what rock were they under for the last ten years not to know about my BOO???? LOL...anyway, when it comes out I suggest you support it because the boys do good work. And it'll be a damn sight better than that shitty porno that was done in my Boos' name oh so many moons ago. And NO, you're not allowed go buy it, even out of curiosity. I'll hunt you down, I promise! Shit, that just made it even more appealing, didn't it? Arrrgh! Anyway, here is the REAL Boo in all his 3-D glory!

Hey! Another Belasco Interview

Hey there, long time no see! Busy-ness most high these days but I'll be back later with info about the art opening that was on Valentine's Day. This was probably the most extensive showing of my work to date and I sold three pieces (and met a few...heh heh) but I digress...when I get some pictures to show, I'll post a longer account. Anyway, until then, click on the main title of this post to be transported to a rather irreverent (is there any other kind?) interview that I did for the MeatCute blog. Check it out!

Painting for the Art Show

Above is the original image used for the invite to the artshow I'm featured in February. Next to it is the painting to show at the exhibit. It's the first large painting I've done in quite some time. I'm starting to get excited about showing and plan on doing more paintings.

MMM MMM GOOD EATIN'!

Here's the color version of a piece I posted the black and white version of a month or three ago! I finished this one on Christmas break which should tell you how much I loooove the holidays! I especially like how the feet turned out (of course that would be my favorite part!) Sometimes I really enjoy using Photoshop to paint with, other times I just can't seem to get it together! Sheeesh! Oh, check out the new merchandise screen right...

In case you missed it...2007 BELASCO CALENDAR!

I've lost count over the years how many times I've been asked if I have a calendar for sale. Well, thanks to Zazzle, I finally have one! Ideally, calendars should be created and advertised around, oh, July, Aug...'Course, I finished mine the week before Christmas! Well my fans are very patient folks...they'd have to be with my slow ass, so anyway, here it is! Again, for those of you who don't look at the links section of this blog....

Boo and the Boys in color...

A few years ago there was an article about me in that Austrailian queer magazine, BLUE. It was a very nice article and I did a few original pieces for it. For some reason they only used the black and white version of this painting in the finished interview. It's one of the few drawings I've done that feature most of my charaters, some of whom are still in my head..the one above my neck, that is. Har har! Here it is now in all it's glory, so to speak...

When in doubt there's always...BOO!

Hadn't posted in a while 'cause of various and sundry thangs...yada yada...But figured I needed to touch base! But first, here's some Boo....

Ok, where wuz we? Let's see...I added a Belasco calendar to my Zazzle webstore. It can be found screen right with some other links to tee-shirts and prints. The Zazzle store also lets you put my designs on anything else you want that they offer like mugs 'n mousepads. The best part is they're the ones responsible for sendin' you the shit, not me! As a A.D.D. short attention span artist type, this arrangement is the best thing since gover'ment cheese!! So anywway, order the calendar, cause it's kinda nifty and if you hurry you'll get some use out of January before its over. I've already got ideas for 2008! Also, over at WWW.BOYTOONS.BLOGSPOT.COM, there's part one of a two part interview with yours truly (that would be ME...BELASCO? Ring a bell? No? Well, check it out anyways...). For you lovers of male erotic art it's the premiere blog/site for postings of homoerotic art, all organized by Patrick Fillion who's work some of you may have seen in Black Inches. ( I wanted that gig but they wouldn't let me draw penetration! lol) How Patrick manages to create and publish a line of comic books AND manage to post regularly to his blog is beyond me. Anyway, check that out. DId I mention BUY MY STUFF? Go the the links and buy some shit. 'Kay? Don't make me beg, y'all. Back with more updates in the new year...OH, right! Happy New Year! See what I mean about A.D.D.?
