Finally an update!

Here is the painted statue from the last post. I'm not totally satisfied with the color on the lightskinned figure, but it did photograph well on my laptop camera. I'll probably go back in and do a fine tune some time soon.

Step 3: Sculpting with Gusto

Here is the sculpture in its current state. I wasn't able to devote a lot of time to finessing it because of time limitations and then I had some mishaps with pieces breaking. Sometimes the polymer clay acts up and you get a lot of cracks in the piece. Sometimes more clay helps, but I find using wood filler is quicker and takes care of the problem. Anyway, you can see there are some changes from the drawing in the previous post and how the figure has developed. I gave the eatee braids because the bald head seemed a little dull when i finally sculpted it. The eater's head in relation to the eatee's ass somehow got elongated so I ended up giving him dreds to make up the difference. Also, the eater's dick got bent in the oven but I like it so it stays. Overall I'm pleased with where it's headed but it ain't done til the paint job.

Step 2: The armature

This is the middle phase after I have designed the sculpture. I create a wire armature, flesh it out with aluminum foil, then cover it with a product call paper clay. I develope the rough form of the sculpture before I apply the final step of polymer clay. Stay tuned.

Original Inspiration

In honor of Valentine's day, here are a couple of paintings I did a few years before I actually got around to sculpting Watermelon Man. It's an image I've been creating and doing variations on as far back as 1994. Enjoy!

Trip-Dick

One or two more melon man pics and some more pics of the Trip-dick piece I posted several posts down. It was a three piece sculpture I did of three interlocking figures. It was very challenging to sculpt each figure so that it interacted with the other ones. I was more or less successful. I knew I shoulda paid more attention in Algerbra.

Mo' Melon Man

See, I told ya the 'hat' was removable...
