More of the New Style Drawings...

Hey there, first of all, please scroll down and read the invite for the Closing party of the art show I'm featured in, Blacks, at the Antebellum Gallery April 4th if you're in Los Angeles. It should be a very fun fete. Next, here are some more of my new style drawings. I have really been on a high cranking these out spontaneously. I've never really drawn this way before but I have been influenced by the work of Claire Wendling and Douglas Simonson to some extend. They've both dealt with simplified figures in their work, but it never really caught on with me til recently. Now my only challenge it to see if I can do a story in this style. I've heard a few who actually post comments that my more detailed style is preferred but lately I was finding that style a bit limiting and it was getting stiff. I think this style is opening me up to more compositional styles and actually more body types. I like pushing away from the more realistic rendering to something more organic and fluid. I think as photos of black nude men overwhelm the internet, it behooves me to push my style in a more unique direction. When I first started doing this kind of art 1000 years ago as Oprah is fond of saying, there was very little in the way of erotic black male imagery in the media. Herb Ritts Mapplethorpe and a few other photographers were doing the high end art photo thing and for erotica, it was small outfits and photoghers like Zebra studios and Rip Bowman but finding black male imagery was like panning for gold. Rare and hard to find. NOW flash forward to our internet inundated age and you can't help but walk into a butt naked black man exposing his crack or dick in pictures. And I'm talking about people's personal profiles, not actual art photography! So the world has caught up with me. LIfe is now just as outrageously debaucherous and more so then anything I drew back in the 90's (of course, it always was, but we didn't have photographic proof of it in videos and pictures like we do now). So whats a depraved artist like me to do? It's been hard to be motivated to create in all honesty, since what originally motivated me was the virtual lack of black male images that were available lo those many years ago. Now, who needs a Belasco when you have Adam4Adam, CocoDorm, DawgpoundUSA etc? Switch it up, that's what. I think my foray into other media such as sculptures is a natural progession of getting my message of liberating the black male figurative form. I still want to do comicstrip stories and maybe this newer style will inspire me toward that. Stay Tuned and find out...
